Change My Stars Summer Camp
Empowering Students Ages 5-15 Through Immersive Language Learning!
Project Esperanza’s annual summer camp offers a vibrant and enriching six-week English immersion experience for students aged 5-15 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The camp is designed to enhance student’s English language skills, especially crucial in a region where tourism is a primary source of income.

What Students Experience:
Our camp curriculum is structured around four engaging stations, ensuring a fun and interactive learning environment:
- Art: Creative expression through English.
- Games: Learning and practicing English in a playful setting.
- Story: Developing comprehension and vocabulary through narratives.
- Songs: Enhancing pronunciation and rhythm with English songs.
The camp is led by native English-speaking volunteers, who are supported by local Counselors in Training—our former campers who continue to be involved and contribute to the program’s success. Some of our local teachers also play a significant role in guiding the students.
Why English Matters:
While English is not a required part of the Dominican Republic’s school curriculum until 5th grade, proficiency in English opens doors to greater opportunities for our students, particularly within the local tourism-driven economy. Our summer camp provides a crucial head start and a solid foundation in the language, fostering confidence and future success.
