Our Mission & Vision

The mission of Project Esperanza is to unite a global community dedicated to fostering positive change and a sustainable future for Haitian immigrant and refugee youth in the Dominican Republic through education and empowerment.

We envision a future where the quality of life for those in underserved communities across Puerto Plata and the entire island of Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic) is consistently improving. This change, we believe, must be self-sustaining, empowering individuals rather than creating dependency. We strive for a growing abundance of opportunities in education, employment, and living conditions that unleash the inherent potential—the resources, skills, and leadership—already present within these communities.

We see a world where individuals use their economic and educational resources in socially generative ways. Our vision includes volunteers, staff, partners, and supporters actively breaking cycles of poverty and apathy by forging new pathways to social justice. We believe these pathways are built when individuals invest their knowledge and passion creatively to ignite positive change.

Ultimately, we envision lasting relationships between sponsors and students, volunteers, employees, and beneficiaries. We dream of individuals, churches, and organizations forming initiatives and networks that strengthen the innovative social programs on Hispaniola—programs we are privileged to be a part of.
