Elementary Education

Centro Educativo Project Esperanza
Padre Granero & Muñoz Schools
We run two pre-school/elementary schools specifically designed for Haitian immigrant children living in the Dominican Republic. Teaching is done bilingually in Spanish and Haitian Creole. Teachers are college graduates, or nearing the end of their degree program, as required by the Dominican Ministry of Education. Our teachers represent a range culturally and linguistically from Dominicans who speak no Creole, to Dominicans of Haitian decent who were born in the Dominican Republic, to Haitians who migrated to the Dominican Republic during their youth, to Haitians who have recently immigrated in adulthood, having completed all of their schooling.
The school day for our early childhood education program and lower elementary classes is held in the morning. Lunch is provided. Upper elementary and middle school students attend in the afternoon. Student ages range from 3-18 years old, as many students have not had the opportunity to attend school regularly throughout their childhood and therefore are behind the normal age for their grade level. A special program is available in the afternoon for students who are several years above the normal age for their grade level.
